Authentic Zipp 60 like it’s predecessor the 404, uses a 58mm carbon section to cross the boundary between aerodynamics and weight; the trademark dimples and toroidal rim shape then further improve the aerodynamics in order to make a wheel that offers the aerodynamics of a much deeper wheel but with the ride quality and accelerative performance of many low profile wheels. This is largely thanks to the shape of the rim, the slightly rounded edges helping to make for a very smooth and comfortable ride as it deflects readily under impact. Some subtle aesthetic differences bring the wheels in-line with the bulk of the competition; hubs are now black as are the spokes so the look is also consistent with the higher end FireCrest models.
An aluminium brake track is bonded to the carbon rim during the layering process and allows the rider to retain the full use of their brakes which try as they might no manufacturer has managed to replicate with a fully carbon rim. The rim is laced onto Zipp’s superb 88/188 hubs which use the finest Swiss stainless steel bearings to make them smooth and a joy to ride with.
These wheels are not a new thing, rather they have been around for a several years now. However if you go down to any triathlon or competitive cycle race you will notice one thing... Zipp... Zipp... Zipp. This is not pure coincidence, they are the most popular wheels because they are both fast and reliable, a solid choice for any rider.
This is the first wheelset from Zipp to go under the SGD $1480 price point which is amazing when you consider they were £1800 for a set when it’s brand new!
