As Nike ad says, Just do it. Touring is fun. Its not as difficult as it seems. Go for it.

Thanks Sehsuan. Yup, I'm using Orb SP. They are a bit small but adquate for short trips. Can double as front panniers if needed and being compact, prevents heel strike esp on foldies.

94, what crankset are you using? I am thinking of swapping my existing 2 ring with a 3 ring as I switched the FD/RD to a 97 XT Group. Am concerned about the chainline and shifting with all the different 3 ring cranks on the market.

Why did I return?

The specs of my BF Expedition a community.bikefriday.com link.

Although it has triple chain rings, it does not appear to hinder the shifting. But i think using an internal hub gear system is probably the way to go for touring bikes if you don't mind the weight (abt 1 kg extra). Shimano is coming up with an 11 speed Alfine hub so that should be worth considering.
